welcome
Welcome to our website. We hope the information provided here allows you some idea as to who we are and what we stand for. In this way, you might be able to decide if we are a good match for you in regards to your dental care decisions.
We believe first and foremost in listening to your desires so as to better understand your values. Our hope is that by listening to you and hearing your story, we can begin to address your concerns.
In our office, we hold that you are in charge of your treatment, and only once you understand your treatment options, can you choose how you would like to proceed with care. In that way, you hire us to provide care for you, but only with your permission and clear understanding.
We believe that your dental status predicts and reflects your general health. Research now tells us that periodontal disease is a predictor for heart disease. We can pick up on intestinal distress, yeast infections, neck pain, and others just by doing a dental exam. We know that getting healthy in your mouth relates to getting healthy in your body. No longer, can we accept the paradigm that our mouth is an entity separate from our body.
We believe in biological care. That is, we perform dentistry that is in concert with the biological system. Our care aims to identify the most bio-compatible materials for your system. By using compatibility testing, we can limit the toxic effect of foreign materials. Dr. Marder has not placed mercury amalgam in a tooth since 1987. We do not perform root canal therapy in the office because of the risk of chronic bacterial infection secondary to root canal therapy. We screen for and treat cavitation (necrotic bone) problems in bone where teeth have been extracted.
Periodontal treatment is performed with the aid of a phase contrast microscope. A sample of plaque is taken and is characterized under the microscope as being problematic or healthy. The scope helps us rate the success of our treatment as well as your own care at home. We have achieved great improvements in gum health by using herbal irrigation agents and teaching people to use these techniques at home. We believe that non-surgical periodontal treatment is less invasive and perhaps more successful than periodontal surgery.
Pain of the head and neck may be bite and jaw related. Dr. Marder has spent several years in continuing education training regarding the treatment of TMJ and headache pain and now specializes in this area. Many patients have experienced great relief of their pain due to this type of treatment.
Orthodontics, with cranial awareness in mind, can also help improve jaw function and comfort. Cosmetic improvement is also achieved. But, perhaps more importantly, the jaw is left in a healthy position and is balanced with the cranial bones. Often, the treatment is completed with a chiropractor or body-worker on the team. Our best results occur when a team of professionals, including the patient, can all work together to improve total health.
We hope this brief introduction has answered, or perhaps stimulated, some questions. We remain available for your inquiries either via this website or by phone.
