environmental build out
In Summer 2008, we were proud to move to our larger, modern, newly remodeled office in the Northgate Area of Seattle. In an effort to create an eco-friendly and green environment, we chose to use materials that are consistent with our mission, healthy! Much of our choices and materials were guided by the LEED certification system and influenced by the environmental Home Store in Seattle (www.ecohaus.com). Below are some of the materials that we used in our build out. We see many environmentally sensitive clients who have commented; “…..that for new construction, I do not seem to be reacting to any materials.”
Flooring
Forbo Marmoleum (www.themarmoleumstore.com)
- Used in the dental treatment rooms
Expanko Cork Tiles (www.expanko.com)
- Used in the labs and in the financial office area
EcoTimber bamboo flooring (www.ecotimber.com)
- Used in the main hallway and in the massage room
EcoTimber hickory
- Also in the main hallway
Slate
- Can be found in the waiting room and bathrooms
Wool carpeting in the reception area
- Much better than acrylics in regards to off-gassing
Paint
Low VOC paints were used exclusively throughout the office
Glues
The least toxic glues were used in cabinet and other manufacturing
Formaldehyde Free Plywood
Where real wood proved cost prohibitive, cabinets were made with formaldehyde free plywood
Lumicor Resin Panels – embedded with plant material and dividing the dental
treatment rooms – these curved panels are made from renewable resources and although we were displeased with the company’s service, their products are truly amazing. You must come to the office to see what we’ve done with these panels. (www.lumicor.com)
New heating/ventilation/AC system with all new ducting was installed to help keep the air quality fresh, clean, and healthy
Caroma - low volume, dual-flush toilets were installed in both bathrooms (www.caromausa.com)
Full spectrum lighting throughout the office
Live plants chosen for their detoxifying effects
Filtered drinking water
Ideas that we are currently working on:
- Ozone gas filtration
- Electro-magnetic-field reduction
- Use of chakras and crystals to reduce toxicities
We have endeavored to make our workspace as healthy as we could. We hope that our clients will appreciate the beautiful and healthful space that we have created. If you see areas in which we could improve in this regard, we are happy to entertain suggestions.
